National News: The Gorakhpur police cracked the NEET student Deepak Gupta murder case. The key accused, notorious cattle smuggler Rahim, was caught after an encounter. In retaliatory firing, Rahim was shot in the leg and rushed to a hospital. His capture was described by police as the most important success in the case, which had triggered anger across the region.

Attempt To Flee Into Nepal

Officials said Rahim was preparing to cross into Nepal to escape arrest. Acting on specific information, police surrounded him in Ramkola, Kushinagar district. When challenged, Rahim opened fire on the police, leading to a gunfight. He was injured in the leg and overpowered quickly. Rahim had been running a smuggling network in Gorakhpur and nearby areas for years.

Four Accused Arrested In Case

So far, police have arrested four people in connection with the case. Apart from Rahim, his associates Chotu and Raju were caught. Earlier, another accused named Ajab Hussain had already been arrested. Police confirmed that search operations are underway to track down the remaining culprits. Officials said none of the accused will be spared.

Murder Of Student Sparked Outrage

The incident took place on Monday night when cattle smugglers arrived in pickup vehicles at Bhatta Chauraha under Pipraich police station. They tried to break open the shutter of a shop. Deepak Gupta, a NEET aspirant, along with villagers, confronted them. The smugglers attacked Deepak and abducted him. His brutal killing shocked the entire village, and locals demanded strict action.

Abduction After A Brave Chase

Eyewitnesses said Deepak bravely chased the fleeing criminals on his scooter. While following their pickup van, his scooter slipped and he fell, leaving him injured. Taking advantage of the situation, the smugglers forcibly pushed him into their vehicle. Later, his body was found four kilometers away from the village. This horrific act highlighted the cruelty of the gang and left the community enraged.

Family Claims He Was Shot

While police stated that Deepak died due to a head injury, his family alleged that he was shot by the smugglers. They demanded encounters of all accused. SSP Raj Karan confirmed that Ajab Hussain was earlier arrested, followed now by Rahim and two more suspects. With four arrests, the investigation is moving forward, though questions remain about the exact cause of death.

Police Strengthen The Investigation

The Gorakhpur police have intensified their hunt for the remaining suspects. Security has been tightened in sensitive areas to prevent unrest. Officials assured that no criminal involved will escape the law. The encounter with Rahim and four arrests show the strong stance of law enforcement. For Deepak’s grieving family, these developments bring partial relief, but they continue to demand full justice.
